This would have taken away from the core point of the film, but if Steve or campers had gone to town about Annie missing, Enos would have been highly suspected

Absolutely right! It would have made a great plot twist if Pamela had ambushed Enos after he dropped off Annie, made him and his truck disappear, and leave something of his at the camp to pin the murders on him. But Alice screwed it all up for Pamela

Of course, it depends on how well respected he was. People may have known him for years and think he's not the type to kill someone. Of course, there are no guarantees.
