does anyone know where this took place in relation to Crystal Lake

The mayor and sheriff knew about Jason so it had to be close, but yet Matt seemed to not know about Jason when he described what happened to Tommy. Of course Matt could have been away form the area and moved to this place so he had no idea about Jason

I always just took it as that Matt was new to the place. Maybe the place he ran was a different location before and he moved to the area closest to Crystal Lake.

Matt is likely from somewhere else and didnt know about the "Legend" of Jason Voorhees and his family.

No one but the town officials seemed to know about Jason. Which makes me wonder if Ethel knew about him. What a great twist that would have been if she had been related to the Vorhees clan
