Actual Facts
Reason 1: It alludes from both films "continuity" into one as we know Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday is now officially under the New Line Cinema Company when the Paramount Pictures sold it to New Line because of Jason Takes Manhattan poor box office rating, and as we all should know A Nightmare on Elm Street was owned under the New Line Cinema Company, meaning now they can canonically have both Characters properly merge without there being issues from both sides, with this having Freddy Krueger from his last appearance Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare (No! Wes Craven's New Nightmare is a standalone film and doesn't tie into the series for both!).
As we established both had a "Final" in their titles but they really weren't by any means, the talk about Freddy vs Jason was set during Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood but since the company couldn't come to logical stories of how it should come together it was developed into Carrie White Vs Jason Voorhees in the forms of Lar Lincoln Park as Tina Shepard and Kane Hodder as Jason Voorhees, and yes we would have seen the Definitive Jason face off against the Definitive Freddy Krueger.
Reason 2: The Chronological order of these films by New Line Cinema is Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday to Freddy Vs Jason to Jason X these films are set in different time areas with Jason Goes to Hell (JGTH) in early 2003 and Freddy Vs Jason (FvJ) in mid or late 2003 (or even 2004) while Jason X (JX) is taking place around the 2010s era and then in the far future of 2455 this was purposely done as and while Freddy Vs Jason was being set up (Sadly without Kane Hodder)
Reason 3: The script for Freddy Vs Jason [Source] it mentions both the Voorhees House (Part 9 aka Jason Goes to Hell) and then mentions Tommy Jarvis (The Male Protagonist/Person to Kill Jason from Part 4-6 of Friday the 13th) and evidence?
So yeah they wanted to show the Voorhees House from Part 9 and even mention Tommy Jarvis (aka Tom Jarvis) heavily indicating the deep connection/references from the previous films and confirming that its not a separate timeline and not a standalone film that connects both films entire history!

Hmm at first I didnt agree but thinking about it you are right, which ALSO makes sense on Freddy grabbing Jason's mask at end of part 9

Yep, when looking at the series as a whole Freddy Vs Jason is the chronological prequel to Jason X.
But from this fans point of view..... Jason X could be watched after any Friday the 13th film after Jason Lives not just Freddy vs Jason.
I actually prefer to watch Jason X as a stand-alone movie without watching any f13 movie before or after it as it is a perfectly self contained story.
The way I look at it the events in Jason X don’t contradict anything that happens in any of the prior F13 films .... and you don’t need to watch Freddy vs Jason as a lead into Jason X.....as he is not captured yet by the end of it.
One could assume at some point after any F13 film after Jason Lives, he is captured and brought to the Crystal Lake Research Facility.....they attempt to kill him many different ways and determine his ability to regenerate is too valuable for Cryogenic stasis...... and we all know what happens then....
