Happy 35th Anniversary to Friday the 13th: Jason Takes Manhattan
On this day July 28th, back in 1989 Jason Takes Manhattan came to us Friday the 13th fans! It's the 2nd Time Kane Hodder would reprise his role as the Iconic Hockey Mask wearing Slasher! And the start of Kelly Hu who played Eva Watanabe career!!!
What is your thoughts on this entry in the franchise??

I enjoyed this entry. I liked the idea of Jason being in New York City. The waitress at the diner saying " Welcome to New York" was a great thing to see, because hey, aren't New Yorkers a bunch of jaded, seen it all world-weary types?
I saw the trailer for this in the movie theater. The " I Love New York " theme was playing, and the Jason turns around with his publicly recognized hockey mask and everyone started laughing.

It should be called Jason takes the Lazarus, but I don't have too many problems with this film. Not my favorite in the franchise by a long shot, but it's watchable. JTM will unfortunately hold the distinction of being the film that made Paramount feel they'd milked all they could out of the franchise, and it's the last film in the main continuity to actually feel like a Friday the 13th film.

I liked it and I don't mind that most of the movie takes place on a boat. July sounds like a hell of a time to release a F13 movie. So happy anniversary!

Yeaaah it should have been Jason Takes Lazarus because Paramount didn't wanna do all that budget for a full vision!

What would a full budget have looked like?

Rob Hedden has been pretty open about all the things he wanted to do if he got to go all out with the New York Premise... Including scenes on the Brooklyn Bridge, the Statue of Liberty, and a boxing match in Madison Square Garden. (Which turned into the roof scene where Jason punches Julius' head off) Unfortunately, filming in New York was just far too expensive, which severely limited how much they could do with the premise. Especially since Part 7 only grossed around 19 million, Paramount just wasn't going to give P8 the type of budget needed to shoot in New York for an extended period of time.

I had never heard of what they were planning on before. I'm still glad we got the scene with Julius.

Paramount when got the bill for how much it was going to cost to film in NYC for an extended period of time. If I remember correctly, they could only afford to film in the city for three days.

Yes and No...
Paramount Pictures definitely had the money for his vision BUT due to how many movies were being filmed along with that tax? Paramount didn't want to waste away money for those reasons.
I believe during that time NYC had...namely 33 movies being either directly filmed, being in pre/post production, and some being wrapped up.
So from Paramount from a financial standpoint it makes sense because they would also need to sign-up contracts and also have to sign legal contracts due to damages and etc, it seems me being so engaged into making my own Fanfilms that doing alot of research, you can understand why they did the down votes, us fans would have loved it but given the circumstances? It makes sense!
